Truth, Fidelity and Love: The Living Forces of Happiness

When we walk through this life, we begin to understand something very simple, yet very profound: our spirits recognize truth the same way our bodies recognize clean water.

When we encounter truth, constancy, justice, fidelity, and love, something within us settles. Our breath deepens. Our minds become clear. Our hearts open. It is as if we have come back into alignment with the way life was meant to be lived.

These qualities are not just moral ideals. These qualities are living forces. Truth is not only something we speak. Truth is something we stand in.

Constancy is not just consistency. Constancy is the steady heartbeat of a person who can be relied upon.

Fidelity is not only loyalty to others, but loyalty to the sacred within ourselves.

And love is the binding force that holds all relations together, human, natural, and spiritual. Even gravity is a form of the unifying power of love.

When these are present, we experience a kind of happiness that is not shallow or temporary. It is not dependent on circumstances. It is a deeper well-being, a sense that we are walking in harmony with Wakan Tanka, with our ancestors, and with all our relations. This happiness is not loud; it is quiet, steady, and enduring. It comes from knowing that we are living well.

But when we encounter lying, faithlessness, and deceit, the opposite begins to happen. Something inside us tightens. There is unease, even if we cannot always name it. Trust begins to erode.

The invisible threads that connect us begin to fray. In time, this leads not only to personal unhappiness but to the weakening of families, communities, and nations. Because once trust is broken, the foundation of the relationship is shaken.

This is why these teachings matter so deeply. They are not about judging others. They are about understanding the conditions that allow life to flourish or to suffer.

When we choose truth, we strengthen the circle. When we choose fidelity, we make relationships safe. When we choose love, we nourish the spirit of the people. But when we turn toward deceit or faithlessness, we do not just harm others; we disturb the balance that sustains us all.

So this becomes a simple but powerful reflection to live by: Where there is truth, there is peace. Where there is constancy, there is trust. Where there is fidelity, there is strength. Where there is love, there is life.

And where these are absent, the spirit feels it immediately. Happiness is not something we chase. Happiness is something that naturally arises when we choose to live in right relationship, with ourselves, with one another, and with the Great Mystery that gives breath to all things.
