Blessed are those who uncover the sweet fragrance of Wóyute Wakan (sacred nourishment) from the sacred footprints of the Wičháša Wakan (Holy Teachers). These footprints, etched upon the paths of Ina Maka (Mother Earth), carry the life-giving breezes of Wakan Tanka (the Great Spirit), gently touching all creation with renewal and awakening. Through their movement, like the sacred dance of wind and water, the healing breath of the Great Spirit flows. Through their stillness, the profound essence of Wówačhíŋtȟaŋka (tranquillity and patience) emerges, settling deep within the heart of the Human Family.
The All-Merciful, the Maker of All Good Things, shines forth as the source of this boundless bounty, Tunkasila Wakan Tanka Mitákuye Oyás'iŋ (the Sacred Grandfather who unites all relations). For it is through the endurance of Wičháša Wakan who walk the sacred path, bearing the burden of injustice, that Wóksape (wisdom) and Wóksape Wówačhíŋyaŋke (the vision of justice) have taken root on Makȟá Ina. Their acceptance of abasement reflects the Creator's radiant majesty, humbling humanity and calling us back to Ohóthi Oyáte (the sacred circle of life).
These Sacred Teachers, like the Pte Wakan Win (White Buffalo Calf Woman), remind us that true greatness is born not in pursuing power but in the willingness to sacrifice, serve, and love selflessly. From their example, we see that the essence of Waunspe (teaching) is not in the words spoken alone but in the spirit breathed into them, a spirit that bridges heaven and earth, uniting us with the sacred mystery of all creation.
As the winds carry the songs of the plains and the rivers whisper ancient wisdom to the mountains, so do the Wičháša Wakan's teachings spread across the Human Family, calling us to honor the sacred trust given to us by the Creator. In their stillness, we find the mirror of our hearts, reflecting the tranquillity of walking the Red Road (the path of spiritual enlightenment and understanding) of unity, harmony, and justice.
May we learn from their endurance and courage and carry their teachings into our lives, becoming vessels for the Great Spirit’s light to shine forth. Let us move with the winds of change and rest in the stillness of understanding so that together, we might restore balance and harmony to our shared sacred hoop, honoring the gifts of Makȟá Ina and the boundless love of Wakan Tanka.
