The Essential Unity of Science and Spirituality and the AISES Council of Elders

The Essential Unity of Science and Spirituality, Unity Sciences and New Paradigm Sciences, and the American Science and Engineering Society (AISES).

The spiritual foundation of the Indigenous Worldview is the ancient understanding of the fundamental Oneness and Unity of all Life.

We all are the Children of Mother Earth and Father Sky, and the never-ending Cosmos. We are all members of One Human Family and part of the Sacred Circle of Life. The Hurt of One is the Hurt of All and the Healing, Honor, and Restoration of One is the Healing, Honor, and Restoration of All!

We are all Indigenous Peoples of our Mother Earth. With this understanding, every Human Being is responsible for the well-being of one another and all Life within and above our Mother Earth.

Over the last decade, a new Field of Science is emerging, which is also called Unity Sciences and New Paradigm Sciences, with contributions from; Quantum Physics, Cosmology, Evolution Biology, Evolutionary Systems Sciences, among others. The understanding of the fundamental relationship and oneness of Science and Spirituality is being realized.

Unity Sciences are able to scientifically explain what Indigenous Knowledge and Wisdom has maintained since the beginning, namely that the reality of Life is unified and whole. For example, spiritual realities like the “Center of the Universe is Everywhere” expressed by Lakota Elder, Black Elk, are now being understood by science through the cosmological principles of holography and holarchy.

The bridge between Science and Spirituality through the Indigenous Worldview informs concrete action on the basis of this unitary understanding of our interconnectedness, interdependence, and interrelatedness. As shared previously, “ The Hurt of One is the Hurt of All and the Honor of One is the Honor of One”

Science and Spirituality, are the two most potent forces impacting our Human Family. In the years before us, Science and Spirituality will be reconciled, cooperate, and harmoniously develop, in unity.

This understanding is fundamental to the Indigenous worldview. As well, as we can clearly see, Science without Spirituality creates Frankensteins and Spiritually without Reason creates Fanatics. We have to walk the spiritual path with practical feet!

At the forefront of integrating and understanding the essential Unity of Science and Spirituality is The American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES). AISES was founded in 1977 by George Thomas, Jerry Elliot, A.T. Anderson, AI Qöyawayma, and Carol Metcalf Gardipe. Each of these very accomplished scientists and engineers is also deeply rooted in their own Indigenous cultures and spiritual backgrounds.

Since its founding of AISES, while being at the forefront of bringing the best of Science and Engineering and STEM Education and Opportunities to Indigenous peoples, AISES is spiritually, culturally, and prayerfully guided by the AISES Council of Elders, whose purpose is to listen to and share with all who attend AISES yearly Leadership Summits and National Conferences.

Wherever AISES meets, great love and respect and appropriate cultural protocol are given to the Elders and Leaders, on whose lands AISES has the privilege.

If you would like to support and encourage interested Indigenous young people in STEM, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathmatics while striving, always, balance and harmonize the spiritual values and teachings found at the heart of all cultures that endure and prosper, please visit AISES.
