Very hurtful and shameful. The Catholic Church closed St. Bede's in Wakpala, on the Standing Rock, three years ago. With memories that go back a hundred years. The Catholic Elders, supported by St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Elders and other Wakpala held out for hours before they tearfully finally had to let it be burned. The Catholic Church burned their own Church down when they had been ordered by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Court not to burn it down, they did anyway!
The Church and Land, from my perspective, should have been returned to the rightful owners on whose land the Church was built, The Community of Wakpala, or the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.
The insensitivity of this unnecessary act of destruction, when our Relatives are already suffering from all the flooding, is appalling! Would Jesus do this?
Very pitiful and spiritually sick! It is easy to understand why Churchianity is disliked by many Indigenous Peoples. There is no way these actions are "Christian!" That is why I call it Churchianity.
