Dancing, Singing and Praying to end Violence Against Women and the rising of the 7th Generation, as prophecized, commemorating the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, WAVAW along with the Squamish, Musqueam, and Tsleil Waututh Nations, Aboriginal groups, multicultural organizations, and other women’s anti-violence groups held their third Sacred Smudge Ceremony in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside (DTES) June 20, 2010.
The intent of the Ceremony was to honour the murdered and missing women of the DTES, to end the violence, sending prayers to honour Mother Earth and all-female energy.
The focus was on women as sacred life-givers and honoring and praying for the rising of our Seventh Generations, as prophesied. The ceremony started with groups from all four races walking from the Medicine Wheel’s four sacred directions to gather at the corner of Main and Hastings.

Chief Phil Lane Jr, was offered Tobacco to honor, pray and dance, for our Relatives of the West, from where, comes darkness, symbolically, our relatives of Africa.
Seven Years later, Chief Phil, and DTES Smudge Ceremony, Lead Drummer, Darcy Demas, Ocean Side Dakota Drum, were invited to address, with Unity Earth, the African Union, that unites 52 African Nations, in their African Headquarters, in Addis Ababa, the Capital of Ethiopia. This day was deeply remembered, as it is, and will be forever!
All members of our Human Family were uplifted and honored, of the Four Directions. Thank you, Beloved Sisters, for all!
