These are almost countless cases of abuse and atrocities suffered by more than 150, OO0 children, age 4-16, in Christian operated, Federal Government supported "Indian" Boarding Schools, across Canada, some exposed and some yet to be exposed, some by Indigenous Peoples, ourselves.
These schools were primarily Catholic. Although the Anglican and United Church of Christ Church's, were equality brutal and abusive, at least the Anglican and the United Churches, stood up and apologized publically.
This is just one of the countless, atrocities and injustices committed to the Indigenous Peoples of Canada and across the Americas. From my perspective, what occurred to the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas, was no less than physical and cultural genocide!
This is what makes the call for Reconciliation very challenging and difficult! As one of my daughters and many other Indigenous Peoples have shared with me," How can have Reconciliation, when there has never been a truthful, honest or just relationship, in the first place. Or "How can there be Reconciliation, when there has never been conciliation?"
What are your thoughts and feelings? Is Reconciliation Possible?
