Remembering My Soul Brother Leonard Gavin

Just received word that one of the very closest brothers and Kodas of my life, brother Leonard Gavin, just journeyed to the Other Side Camp. His Son-in-Law gave a call to inform me. I had been thinking strongly about Leonard last night and today. I have even been listening to songs from the sixties today. Many that brother Leonard and I listened to together.

Brother Leonard was my soul brother in the deepest sense of the word. We met in our wild days in the spring of 1966, 55 years ago. I do not anyone I could laugh with any deeper than my brother Leonard.

I had been up partying all night long on a Saturday night, in the Central District of Seattle. It was about 6 AM and my friend FT, a white brother, was tired out, but I was still ready to party.

We came to a stoplight. I looked to the right and brother Leonard and two of his brothers pulled up. When I looked into brother Leonard's eyes it was as if we knew each other forever.

Brother Leonard said, " Brother, what's happening?" I said, " We have been partying, but my buddy is all pooped out, but I am still ready to party!"

Brother Leonard said, " Brother, we are just getting started, please join us!" I got a big smile and said, " Brother, I will be right over."

I told FT, goodbye, and jumped in with Brother Leonard and his two brothers, and off we went. And we partied all day long. Brother Leonard drove me home late Sunday afternoon.

Ever since then, we have been close brothers. After Vietnam, Brother Leonard became a pilot for Alaska Airlines. He retired from Alaska Airlines, after a long time of service. There are many stories of our adventures, both wild and spiritual, but I will put a bookmark here.

May God bless you forever brother Leonard! I know, without question that you will be there to welcome me when it is my time to make my journey to the Other Side Camp. Our prayers are with you and your beloved ones! I am honored that I have been invited to speak about our brotherhood at your Zoom Remembrance Ceremony on Wednesday evening.
