Remembering Land Defenders Before Signing the Mother Earth Treaty

Times Square, April 21, 2016, the night before signing the International Treaty to Protect and Restore Mother Earth, Mother Earth Day, April 22, 2016, after a 7-year consultation process across the Americas, concluding with a 10-day consultation process at the Chateau Millemont, during COP 21, November 29-December 7, 2021, in Paris.

Before signing the Treaty we wanted to bring to remembrance the reality that two members of our Human Family people are killed every week defending their land, forests, and waterways against the expansion of large-scale agriculture, dams, mining, logging, and other environmental threats.
