Remembering Beloved Brother Calvin Pompana

Remembering Beloved Brother Calvin Pompana, whose earth suit was put to rest today in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I met brothers Calvin and Alden Pompana, at the Sioux Valley Sun Dance, in June 1980. Seems like yesterday!

As my father always said, " Son, when it is time to go home, you ride to the top of the hill on your best horse, turn and give one last wave, and our relatives say, "There he goes, there he goes!"

Then you nudge your horse over the hill, and before you, farther than your spiritual eyes can see, are the camps of those who have walked the Red Road before us. And they are crying out, " Here he comes, here he comes, here he comes!"

And that is " death."

Three smiling men stand arm in arm in front of a painting of a Native warrior holding a rifle; the man on the right wears a beaded red hand medallion.
