Our World Beyond War...
Under a radiant blue sky, Shunkmanu led his three grandchildren, Ella, Nahtayu, and Oliver, to a resting spot beside a gentle mountain stream. The flowing, sparkling water set a tone of serenity as they settled down on the soft grass.
"Ah, Grandpa, it's so peaceful here!" Nahtayu exclaimed, stretching her arms wide as if to embrace the landscape.
"It is," Shunkmanu agreed, "and I want to share something important with you all in this peaceful setting. Would you like to hear a vision of what our world will look like in a time of complete peace?"
All three grandchildren nodded eagerly.'
"Let's begin with how resources could be shared. Imagine a world where everything we produce benefits everyone. No one is too poor, and no one is greedy with wealth. How does that sound to you?" Shunkmanu paused, looking at Ella.
Ella thought for a moment. "It sounds fair, like a big family that cares for each other."
"Exactly, my child. It will be one big Human Family."
Shunkmanu turned to Oliver. "What do you feel when you hear about people fighting because they come from different countries?"
"It makes me sad, Grandpa. We're all humans, right?"
"Yes, Oliver, we are. In tomorrow's world, nationality will just be a way to celebrate diversity, not a wall that divides us."
"Nahtayu," Shunkmanu continued, "you know how we sometimes hear about people arguing and fighting over religion? Imagine a world where that doesn't happen."
"Because everyone understands that the love of one Great Spirit is at the core of all faiths!" Nahtayu chimed in.
"Precisely, my wise grandson."
"Do any of you like to think about the future? Space, technology, or medicine?" Shunkmanu’s eyes twinkled.
"All of it, Grandpa!" Ella exclaimed. "I want to be a scientist!"
"And you can be," Shunkmanu affirmed. "In our future world, our minds will focus on improving our health, understanding our minds, and caring for Mother Earth. Science and spirituality will work together."
"Wouldn't it be cool if everyone could feel part of one big soccer team?" Shunkmanu smiled at each grandchild.
"That's like a dream team, Grandpa!" Oliver laughed.
"And our Indigenous wisdom, teachings, and understanding of Mother Earth will be part of this 'dream team,' helping everyone find their way."
"Like a world where people share and learn from each other, East and West, mixing the best of both?" Ella asked.
"You've got it, Ella. A blend of wisdom from all corners of Mother Earth."
"Now, what if our leaders were kind, just, and made decisions based on love and respect for all life?" Shunkmanu posed the final question.
"Then we wouldn't need superheroes, Grandpa. Our leaders would be our heroes," Nahtayu concluded.
Shunkmanu chuckled, deeply moved. "Ah, you are all so wise already. This vision is not just a dream. It's a responsibility for all of us to manifest. You, my precious grandchildren, and all of your generations are torchbearers for this new world."'
As they sat there, soaking in the beauty around them and the vision they'd just shared, they each felt a sense of purpose, a quiet commitment to making this dream a reality. The mountain stream seemed to whisper its approval, while the sky, in its endless blue, seemed to make room for a future full of divine promise.
