Lots of Thunder, No Rain: Grandfather Iron Cloud and the BIA

"Lots of Thunder, No Rain"

The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), back in the 1920's wanted one of my great-grandfather's support, so they invited him to come to a BIA meeting. He came and sat down close to the BIA Speakers, who droned on and on, throughout the day.

Just before the end of the meeting, my great-grandfather stood up and started to walk out. As he was one of the primary people they wanted to convince to give up more land for the "good" of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, they immediately, stopped the meeting.

The main BIA leader said, "Mr. Iron Cloud, what did you think about what we talked about today. Grandfather Iron Cloud said as he walked out, "Lot's of thunder, no rain!"
