A sacred fire was kindled — not as a mere ritual, but as a living fulfillment of an ancient prophecy that has guided the Indigenous peoples of the Eagle, particularly the Anishinaabe and related nations of Turtle Island, for centuries.
This was the lighting of the Eighth Fire, a beacon signaling humanity’s collective choice toward unity, healing, and the restoration of balance with Mother Earth. Organized by the Union of the Condor, Hummingbird, Quetzal, and Eagle — together with the Four Worlds International Institute and hosted by CONODEPOA (the National Council for the Development of Indigenous and Afro-Mexican Peoples) — this gathering brought together Indigenous leaders, knowledge keepers, and allies from across the Americas to declare: we choose the path of peace, cooperation, and oneness.
The Eighth Fire Prophecy reminds us that we stand at a pivotal threshold in human history. It calls us not to passive hope, but to active responsibility: to honor Indigenous wisdom, confront the shadows of colonization, and co-create a world rooted in harmony rather than division. As the flames rose that night in Hidalgo, the prophecy moved from oral teaching into lived reality. The ashes from that original fire have since traveled the globe, igniting sister fires in places as far-flung as Slovenia, the deserts of the United Arab Emirates during COP28, Ireland, and beyond — carrying prayers for unity to every corner of Mother Earth.
The Seven Fires: A Sacred Map of Humanity’s Journey
The prophecy originates with the Anishinaabe people, whose prophets — long before European contact — received visions of seven distinct eras, each called a “Fire.” These were not predictions of inevitable fate, but teachings about the consequences of choices, the cycles of migration and settlement, loss and renewal, and the enduring possibility of redemption. They form a spiritual roadmap for Turtle Island and, by extension, all humanity.
**The First Fire **brought the original instructions: teachings of balance, harmony, and our intimate relationship with all life. It was an era when the people lived in accordance with the Creator’s guidance, walking lightly upon the Earth.
The Second Fire ushered in a time of migration. Pressured by other groups, the Anishinaabe peoples wandered in search of new lands, learning adaptability and resilience amid change.
The Third Fire marked settlement and prosperity. Communities took root in their homelands, populations flourished, and cultural expressions deepened — a golden age of growth and stability.
The Fourth Fire brought profound disruption: the arrival of European settlers. This era brought conflict, war, and devastating disease, shattering old balances and forcing nations into survival struggles. Rivers ran with poison; traditional ways were suppressed.
The Fifth Fire presented a critical fork in the road. It demanded reflection: would humanity choose paths of destruction, greed, and separation, or renewal, respect, and interconnectedness? Our choices here would echo into the future.
The Sixth Fire kindled rebirth. After generations of turmoil, Indigenous peoples began reclaiming and reviving their spiritual and cultural practices. Healing stirred; the embers of ancient knowledge glowed once more.
The Seventh Fire is the era many recognize as our own. “New People” — often younger generations or those awakening to their responsibilities — emerge seeking guidance from the Elders. Yet many Elders appear “asleep” or unable to offer what is needed. Caution and discernment are required. Crucially, this Fire places a solemn choice before the “light-skinned race”: continue down the road of materialism, domination, and ecological destruction, or return to the wisdom of Indigenous teachings and walk in cooperation. If the wrong path is chosen, the harms of colonization will rebound upon all. But if the right path is taken, the Seventh Fire will ignite the Eighth.
The Eighth Fire, then, is the culmination — the final stage. Should humanity choose unity, peace, and brotherhood/sisterhood, it will usher in a golden age: a time when the sacred teachings are rekindled, old flames dance anew, and the Water Drum of the Midewiwin Lodge sounds once more. The prophecy foretells not utopia through magic, but through conscious, prayerful action: a rebirth that embraces all peoples.
The Union Chooses the Sacred Path
The Union of the Condor, Hummingbird, Quetzal, and Eagle, in partnership with the Four Worlds, embodies this prophetic convergence. Gender Equality and Social Justice: True balance requires the equal voice and dignity of all genders.
Balancing the growing Extremes of Wealth and Poverty: Extreme disparity is a “bad medicine” that poisons society.
Elimination of All Prejudice: Racism, sexism, classism, and all divisions are illusions that block the Eighth Fire.
The Unity of Science and Spirituality: Knowledge is sacred when it serves life.
Inclusive, Culturally Respectful, Universal Education: Education must honor diverse worldviews and empower the New People.
The Independent Investigation of Truth: Each person must seek truth with an open heart and mind.
Embracing Unity in Diversity: Difference is strength, not threat.
These principles, when lived, dissolve the destructive forces of the Fourth and Fifth Fires and fulfill the promise of the Eighth Fire.
