Honoring Our Treaty and Uniting to Protect the Sacred

Memories! Together at the Protect the Sacred Gathering at Fort Randall, Yankton Sioux Reservation where we honored our 150 Year Treaty, January 23, 1863, between the Yankton Sioux Tribe and the Pawnee Nation. Following this Ceremony, after three days of consultation, we signed the International Treaty to Protect the Sacred from Tar Sands Projects. This International Treaty has now been signed by First Nations in Canada and Native American Tribes and Nations in the US.

Four Indigenous men stand together smiling in a meeting room; one wears a Pendleton-patterned scarf, one a blue ribbon shirt, one a navy polo, and an elder a black cap and jacket.
