Hunkashi, this is a story that was quietly kept in our family for many, many years. It happened more 160 years ago. Finally, our Lekshi, Vine Deloria Jr, shared this experience that occurred with Hinhan Wicasa and Tipi Sapa in one of the last books he wrote, "Singing for a Spirit" before he went to the Other Side Camp. This is when all our Tiospayes and Oyate's lived in a genuinely spiritual manner and loved and respected each other in the ways that were shared with us by your beloved Ate Oliver and your beloved Ena.
The prophecies and spiritual teachings that were shared with me when I was young, and then from the elders and spiritual teachers from other Indigenous, tribes, and nations, I have met, from across the Americas and beyond, over the past 50 years.
They all have the same underlying message in their prophecies and spiritual teachings, as well. Some that were shared with me in 1970-1972 when I was in Bolivia, with our Quechua and Aymara Relatives, go back before the coming of the Europeans like the Prophecy of the Reunion of the Condor, Quetzal, and the Eagle.
They all said that we would go through a long, hard, bitter spiritual Wintertime, a time of great suffering, a time that many of our beloved relatives would forget our highest spiritual teaching, to alway be a good relative. I found, many years ago, a short, but beautiful statement, in English, that reflect the way our Tiospayes and Oyates before us Walked the Red Road before our Lala'a and Unchis. This is what gave them, I believe, their many miraculous gifts of healing, wisdom, vision, and prophecy! This deep faith and trust in Wakan Tanka gave us the spiritual strength to emerge from the long Spiritual Winter, stronger than ever!
“Be generous in prosperity, and thankful in adversity. Be worthy of the trust of your relatives, and look upon them with a bright and friendly face. Be a treasure to the poor, an admonisher to the rich, an answerer of the cry of the needy, a preserver of the sanctity of your pledge. Be fair in your judgment, and guarded in your speech. Be unjust to no one, and show all meekness to all. Be as a lamp to them that walk in darkness, a joy to the sorrowful, a sea for the thirsty, a haven for the distressed, an upholder and defender of the victim of oppression.
Let integrity and uprightness distinguish all your acts. Be a home for the stranger, a balm to the suffering, and a tower of strength for the fugitive. Be eyes to the blind, and a guiding light to the feet of the erring. Be an ornament to the countenance of truth, a crown to the brow of fidelity, a pillar of the temple of righteousness, a breath of life to the body of humankind, an ensign of the hosts of justice, a luminary above the horizon of virtue, a dew to the soil of the human heart, an ark on the ocean of knowledge, a sun in the heaven of bounty, a gem on the diadem of wisdom, a shining light in the firmament of your generation, a fruit upon the tree of humility. The Ancient of Days
All the prophecies, also share, that after 500 years that a great spiritual spring time would unfold all at once, everywhere, on our Beloved Ena Maka. With coming of this new Spiritual Springtime, the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas would become enlightened that we would help illumine the Human Family, everywhere on Mother Earth.
This long awaited Spiritual Springtime is beginning to unfold, and all of us have a spiritual role to play, first at home and then beyond! I am looking forward to the upcoming visit with our relatives!
