Over Christmas and New Year 1972-1973, after returning from Bolivia, I drove a limousine for 4 months. The only larger vehicles I had driven were I Pea and Wheat harvests.
When they interviewed me for the job and asked me if I had ever driven Limo, I said yes. LOL! I figured driving these big trucks in the Pea and Wheat harvests for three years qualified me.
I had a very enjoyable time during those 4 months driving relatives like the Rolling Stones, Alice Cooper and his manager, Shep Gordan, Joan Baez, Gladys Knight, Carol O’Conner, the Mamas and Papa’s, Don Rickles, and other Relatives.
I really hit it off with Bill Wyman and his wife of the Rolling Stones. He used to call our BLS Limo Service and say, “Send the Indian.”
There were some wild occasions I witnessed and great conversations I had. Somehow they felt safe sharing personal stories with their Limo drivers. I have kept their confidentiality for 50 years now.
One of the most opposites from his stage personality was Alice Cooper. He was a very warm, respectful, and loving human being.
One early evening when I was driving him to one of his concerts, he laughed and said, “ You know, a lot of people say I am crazy, but don’t you think that the people who pay $50.00 to come and see me are a lot crazier? “ I laughed and said, “ Mr. Cooper, I fully agree!”
I never thought over these past 50 years that someone would send a limousine to pick me up from LAX, that I did quite often, but as they say, never say never.
So I am on a two-hour with a great driver from Algeria having a wonderful visit about the Koran. It is a great day to be alive!!!!!
