MINNEAPOLIS, August 8, 2026 — AI for Peace, an emerging global team of teams, today announced the launch of Proving Peace Is Possible, a 44-day Compassion Game inviting people and organizations worldwide to work toward a shared goal: honoring September 21, the United Nations International Day of Peace, as a genuine global pause—a day of ceasefire and nonviolence.
The initiative begins during the August 8 Global Peace Activation and the Being Minneapolis gathering, with activities at George Floyd Square and peace activations around the world.
“We are launching from Minneapolis because this city can help show the world what it means to meet violence with healing, relationship, courage, and collective care,” said Jon Ramer, co-founder of AI for Peace and Compassion Games International.
For 44 days, participants will explore a shared question:
Can humanity organize its collective intelligence and compassion across differences to help prove that peace is possible?
A co-opetition for humanity
A Compassion Game is a cooperative competition, or co-opetition, in which teams challenge one another not to defeat an opponent, but to contribute more effectively to a shared victory.
In this game, no nation, company, or organization wins alone. Humanity wins when violence stops, aid reaches people in need, affected communities are heard, and cooperation becomes more possible.
“Humanity has built extraordinary forms of intelligence, yet we have not learned how to stop killing one another for even a single day,” Ramer said. “We are inviting AI leaders, peacebuilders, affected communities, Indigenous wisdom holders, and people everywhere to meet in a new spirit of co-opetition. Our first shared challenge is simple, profound, and measurable: can we help humanity prove that peace is possible?”
The initiative brings together three essential foundations:
Compassion Games International, contributing more than a decade of experience mobilizing cooperative action;
ProSocial World, co-founded by evolutionary biologist David Sloan Wilson, contributing the science and practice of cooperation; peacebuilders, affected communities, and Indigenous wisdom holders, contributing lived experience, moral purpose, and knowledge grounded in relationship.
“This is not a competition to determine who has the most powerful intelligence,” said Lisa Ma, a member of the AI for Peace Founding Circle. “It is a co-opetition to discover what becomes possible when we put intelligence in service to life.”
A living global experiment
The story of the 44 days is not written in advance. It will emerge through the people who join, the relationships formed, the actions taken, and the openings for peace that become visible.
Under the banner “44 Days to Prove Peace Is Possible: The Living Story of Humanity Putting Intelligence in Service to Life,” AI for Peace will publish daily dispatches, weekly syntheses, and a final report following September 21.
The initiative will document participation, partnerships, compassionate actions, dialogue and ceasefire openings, humanitarian efforts amplified, affected-community priorities elevated, resources mobilized, and lessons about what helps cooperation succeed.
The journey leads from the August 8 Global Peace Activation through the 11-Day Global Compassion Challenge, September 11–21; Peace Through Unity Weekend, September 18–21; and the International Day of Peace on September 21.
“For nearly three decades, Peace One Day has worked toward a simple but transformative possibility: one day each year when the world stops violence and chooses peace,” said Jeremy Gilley, founder of Peace One Day, whose campaign helped establish September 21 as an annual day of global ceasefire and nonviolence. “These 44 days offer people everywhere an opportunity to help turn that possibility into lived reality. Peace begins with a day—and every person has a part to play.”
Two horizons for AI for Peace
Horizon One: Proving Peace Is Possible mobilizes a global team of teams toward September 21 as a meaningful Global Pause.
Horizon Two: Intelligence in Service to Life will build upon what is learned through an ongoing co-opetition among frontier AI labs, peacebuilders, affected communities, Indigenous wisdom holders, youth, cooperation experts, media, and civil society.
“Peace is not merely the absence of war, it is a way of living in right relationship with one another and with Mother Earth,” said Hereditary Chief Phil Lane Jr., Chairperson of Compassion Games, and a founder of AI for Peace. “Through AI for Peace, we invite humanity to choose peace, live peace, and end war by bringing our collective wisdom and intelligence into service to all life. When we unite across nations, cultures, and generations, proving peace is possible becomes a responsibility we can fulfill together.”
An open invitation
AI for Peace is inviting frontier AI labs to join a transparent co-opetition by contributing tools, research capacity, expertise, and relationships in support of peacebuilders and communities working closest to conflict.
Individuals can join the game, take and report compassionate action, and invite others. Peacebuilders and affected communities can bring forward their priorities and openings for peace. Journalists and conveners can help reach the leaders whose participation could change what is possible.
‘The proposition is not that artificial intelligence can create peace for humanity. It is that humanity can bring its many forms of intelligence—human, cultural, spiritual, scientific, relational, emotional, and technological—into service to life.
AI for Peace is not announcing that it has the answers. It is inviting the world to learn together, searching for where peace is already trying to happen and helping it become more visible, connected, consequential, and generative.

Game on.
