History to be Remembered and Reflected Upon!
When General Lee was surrendering to General Grant, to end the US Civil War, General Lee wanted to get in one last jab at General Grant. General Lee knew that General Grant`s Adjutant, was Eli S. Parker, a full-blooded Seneca who was commissioned as a Lieutenant Colonel and who wrote the final draft of the Confederate surrender terms at Appomattox.
Just after General Lee signed the surrender document, he turned to General Grant and motioned to Eli S. Parker and said: Sir, it appears we only have one true American here today! Without a pause, Lieutenant Colonel Parker said to General Lee: “Sir, today, we are all Americans!”
Today may we all remember that we are all members of the same Human Family!
