Don't Be an Imitator, Be Yourself: A Teaching from Pete Catches

Can an Indigenous relative play bridge? Yes! They have the full potentiality to do whatever they choose to dedicate themselves to do! I remember when I Sun Danced at Sitting Bull's Camp on the Standing Rock in the early 1980's with Pete Catches. One of the many great teachings he shared with us is, "Don't be an imitator, be yourself!"

An elderly Indigenous man with long dark hair and a deeply lined face speaks outdoors, gesturing with one hand, beside weathered fence posts on a dry hillside.
