Crossing US Customs with a Tribal ID

IMMIGRATION-- Everyone in the Airport and US-Bound Aircraft required to wear masks.

The only challenge was going through US Customs. I used my Canadian passport and my US Tribal ID. The Custom Agent said I was not an American unless I was carrying a US Passport.

I said that my US ID was my Tribal ID. The agent said that my Tribal ID had no meaning. "Yes, I said, that is clear from the US Military's behavior at the White Stone and Wounded Knee Massacres, among others. I know I could have responded in a more loving way. I can see I need to do some more healing on these issues!

Of course, the Agent relative, choose to bring me to secondary inspection. His supervisor looked at my documentation, including my Tribal ID, my grey hair, wrinkled face, wheelchair, and "rolled his eyes." Then with a warm smile sent us immediately on our way.

The Supervisor made it clear in his actions, that he did not approve of me being brought into secondary inspection, in a wheelchair. At the same time, you never know what an old Shunkmanu may have up his white sleeves.

Phil Lane Jr., a grey-haired man in a white protective suit, face mask and glasses, sits in a wheelchair holding papers in an airport customs line, with masked travelers nearby.
