A Journey Around Mother Earth for My Parents' 50th Anniversary

In 1993, I had accumulated a lot of air miles, so for my parents 50th wedding I surprised them with two First Class tickets for a journey around Mother Earth. 🌎

They had never travelled beyond Canada and the US except for two years in the Panama Canal Zone when I three and four years old.

I met them in Thailand for two weeks where I was doing some work with the Hill Tribes. We had a great time together. Of course, my father always wore blue jeans, cowboy boots, a native patterned cowboy shirt, hat and buckle, wherever he went or was with.

No different in Thailand, the homeland of my beloved wife. And the Thai’s received both my father and mother with great ❤️ love and affection.

Wherever we went everyone would come up and up and give a greeting in Thai and say “cowboy, cowboy “ and he would return their greeting with a big smile and say, “Good to see you my friend,“ as he always said to anyone he met.

This is one of days at the beach, one of the only pictures I have of him without his boots or moccasins on and my mother with shorts on. I just ran into today after many years and these memories came. And then I looked in the mirror and said how in the world did I get this old so quick!

One of teachings my parents always demonstrated in their actions was “Never let the Honey Moon end” and “Always be yourself!”

Two shirtless men in shorts and white socks stand on a sunny beach with an older woman in a pink top and white shorts between them, arms around each other, with blue water and a city skyline behind.
