Yesterday, I was going through some old papers and found this paper I wrote on June 1, 1978, for a Psychology class, just before I went to Bear Butte to fast for the first time.
I was 33 at the time, 43 years ago. My son typed it up for me to share.
When I read it after many years, I asked the question, "Where did the last 43 years go?" Then I looked back all these years like it was yesterday. I am very thankful that this is just the beginning of our eternal journey.
Like Crow Foot said, " Life? Life is like the breath of a buffalo on a winter day, the flash of a firefly on a warm summer night, and the shadows vanishing before the setting sun."
The poem at the end was written by a beloved one at that time in my life. When I reread it after so many years, my heart was touched with tears.
